Hertfordshire Citizens Advice British Sign Language Service
The Hertfordshire Citizens Advice Service (HCAS), employs Redmond Kaye as a trained Citizens Advice adviser who can help clients who are deaf or hard-of-hearing.
Citizens Advice works hard to ensure the service that it provides is as inclusive as possible. Now, thanks to funding from Hertfordshire County Council, we can offer advice directly to clients in Hertfordshire who communicate using British Sign Language (BSL), Sign Supported Language (SSE), or lip-speaking.
Redmond Kaye, who is deaf himself and whose first language is British Sign Language, is based at Citizens Advice Welwyn Hatfield at its Queensway offices in Hatfield. Offering county-wide support, Redmond is available to travel to any of the Citizens Advice offices across Hertfordshire or offer online sessions via Skype.
Redmond commented on his appointment “My job is really rewarding as I am able to help clients who would otherwise find it difficult to access our advice service. Deaf people suffer the same problems that hearing people encounter and can often struggle with extra problems navigating everyday life as well. I can help with all types of problems such as debt, housing, employment or benefits. My role means deaf people in Hertfordshire can access the same advice as hearing people.
“HCAS is proud to provide such a valuable service that is free, independent, impartial and confidential and open to every deaf person in Hertfordshire.”
